Dog-Gone Good Cartoons by Berkeley’s Damon :) Guthrie
Each PIDO Pointer brings a paws-itively spot-on comic about life at Point Isabel, seen through our four-legged regulars. For five years, Damon :) Guthrie has captured the park’s everyday hilarity with pitch-perfect wit, often with a gentle nod to protecting the shoreline we love.
We held a caption contest for a PIDO comic—New Yorker–style, but with more mud and slobber. The competition was fierce and Damon, who served as cartoonist and judge, had some tough decisions to make.
Here are the winning caption, runner-up, and honorable mention. Thank you to everyone who submitted such creative and clever entries. We had a blast reading them and hope you had just as much fun participating.
And we have winners…
“Dog is my pilot”
Yoni, Berkeley (winner)
“Hard to tell who looks forward to their off-leash time more”
Betty, El Cerrito (runner-up)
“I won’t tell mom if you don’t”
Susan, El Cerrito (honorable mention)
PIDO Pointer cartoonist Damon :) Guthrie is making several of his classic Point Isabel cartoons available free for your coloring pleasure.
It’s easy to download the first set of cartoons – all created with the backdrop of Point Isabel Seashore – and print out at home, then color. We’re looking forward to seeing your creative flourishes.
