Long Wharf Leak Cleanup Complete

Cleanup efforts in the wake of the Richmond Chevron refinery oil leak at Long Wharf are completed, according to a command group of agencies. The Feb. 9 leak sent an estimated 500-750 gallons of “diesel/water flush mix” from a ¼-inch hole in a pipe into the bay, causing a brownish sheen that spread from Point Molate to Brooks Island. According to district director Elizabeth Echols, the East Bay Regional Park District had closed Keller Point for several days to test the water. It reopened Feb. 13. We’re happy to report that Point Isabel was not affected by the leak and there have been no known cases of adverse impacts on wildlife. There is an ongoing investigation.
